Have you noticed a TV icon on the top right corner of your Instagram homepage? If you haven’t, check it out. This is IGTV, which allows you to watch videos or download the IGTV app to view your favorite video content creators.

IGTV differs from Instagram stories because IG stories limit videos to one minute while IGTV allows video creators to upload an hour of content. This opens a lot of opportunity to video producers and brands to share content on Instagram.

Many brands are merely repurposing their Instagram stories onto IGTV. While this is a short-term way for creators to repurpose their content, it’s not ideal. Instagram stories are typically shot quickly because the video content only lasts for 24 hours. IGTV lives on forever, so it’s a good idea to produce high-quality video content.

To help you produce beautiful IGTV videos, we’ve put together this IGTV guide.

Your IGTV Guide

Don’t Repost Your Instagram Story

As mentioned above, your IGTV videos will live on your Instagram page. So, producing a beautiful video is key to keep audiences engaged with your content.

Create A Show Series

One excellent way to engage your audience is to create an IGTV-dedicated show or series. This way people will want to see the next episode. There are a variety of ways to do this. You can create a scripted show, reality show, interview-style show or more. Play around and see what sticks with your audience.

Have a Schedule

Whether you want to post daily or once a week, create a schedule and stick to it. This way your audience will tune it at the right time. So, if you want to post a video on Thursday, keep it at the same time and day and let your Instagram followers know. Think of it like TV.

Shoot Vertical Video

Youtube videos are best shot horizontal. On IGTV, videos are best vertical. Stick with the dimensions of 1080 by 1920 pixels, or an aspect ratio of 9:16.

Add Graphics and Texts

Creating special effects adds another element to your video. Adding graphics and texts to your video can help make your video stand out. Don’t be afraid to add in different effects, transitions, lower thirds or other graphics to make your video engaging and varied.

Promote Your Video

Don’t forget to promote your next IGTV video. Create a teaser clip in your Instagram Story and share your Instagram posts when your followers can see the full video on your IGTV channel. Think of it as a commercial or print ad to promote a TV show.

As you create more IGTV shows, you’ll get an idea of what works with your followers. So, have fun and get creative!
